LED light-emitting body is a PN junction on the chip of very small size, which is typical point light source. When seen by human eyes, it may cause an uncomfortable feeling of dazzling. As LED lighting technology continues to development and has reached a new step, most LED lamps used for household lighting are made with a white shell to make the glow softer. Therefore we don’t need to suffer from dazzling light any longer.

The white shell is light diffuser. There is a substantial increase in the area of ​​the light source through the light diffuser, while keeping the same amount of light and controlling the luminous intensity of unit area in a visually acceptable range, thereby to avoid dazzle.

Now is Polycarbonate widely used, PC engineering plastic for short. As a part of lamp, the shell is made with light-diffusing agents and reinforcing fibers in order to change the shape of the lamp and change the light flexibility. It is easy to process out different shapes based on our needs, such as some special design like rope, raindrop etc. It can also be made to conform to standard patch of fluorescent, incandescent lamps etc.

Polycarbonate is transparent. After adding some particles to it, light can be reflected many times on the surface of these tiny particles and then well-distributed scattering out, thereby the light can be diffused and softened. This particle that causes light refraction is light diffusing agent. The light diffusing agent has two kinds, traditional inorganic and organic one. Barium sulfate, silica are inorganic light-diffusing agents.

The more refraction the light goes through, the better the effect of the diffusion is. However, the refractive index of the surface of the diffusion agent cannot be 100%. Because light will be absorbed during each refraction and luminous flux will decrease. Therefore, to get good diffusion effect without consuming too much luminous flux is the important content of light diffusion material research. At present, lamp tube or lampshades which demand the light transmittance of over 50% cannot use inorganic light diffusion agent.

If using organic nanometer microsphere, which light can penetrate it, then the problem of lighting uniformity and transmittance can be solved. When light goes through, it can penetrate these microspheres. After diffusion and refraction for many times in the microspheres, the light goes out. This increases the luminous surface and makes the point light source become area source. The glow turns soft and luminous loss is small. So if you require a high light transmittance rate, organic light diffusion agent is an ideal option.
